Bridging handmade techniques with digital design and production, is the sweet spot to making a curated space feel truly unique. For over 20 years I have been creating textiles and wallcoverings with this bridge as the guide. As mass production gobbles up the globe, I have an increasing awareness that faster isn’t always better. That art created with true intention beyond the quarterly metrics, has a different feeling in its end-use application.
I am often surprised by my own creations by playing with the limitless handmade processes, using dyes, pastels, watercolor, acrylic, sewing, weaving, collage, and anything else that brings inspiration. While the initial concept and end use add perimeters to see a design through. Refinement then happens with digital tools to allow for even more variation, unexpected and intentional, with successful production ready repeats, layers and inspiring presentation.
Recently, Ive been expanding how I engage with art as a commodity through exploring weaving in Europe and The Americas. I’m looking forward to how this continues to integrate into my full practice and the footprint we are collectively embossing.
